Waseca Bluejays Basketball Alumni Day
Todd Dufault, Waseca High School's new basketball coach invites Bluejay basketball alumni 'who are in a position to play' to participate in alumni games on the afternoon of Friday, November 25. Following the games there will be a reception open to all former Bluejay basketball players. To cap off the day, the current 2011-12 Waseca Bluejays will take the court in the evening in the first annual Blue/Gold game. . . . Keep reading
2011 Inductees to the Waseca High School Athletic Hall of Fame
The Waseca High School Athletic Hall of Fame has announced six new members to be inducted in 2011, giving the Hall 40 members since it's beginning in 2005. This year's inductees are Archie Johnson (1959), Jim Howard (1958), Andy (Hambone) Papke (1947), Doug Tramp (1987), Jon Summer (1993) and Gary Meurer (coach). . . . Keep reading
Andy 'Hambone' Papke, 2011 WHS Athletics Hall of Fame Inductee
Andy Papke graduated from Waseca Central High School in 1947 and from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1951. He was one of several athletes who enlisted in the service during World War ll and returned to complete his education after the hostilities ceased. Before entering the Navy, he distinguished himself in athletics, particularly in basketball and football. Hambone Papke was one of the greatest athletes to ever play for Waseca Central. . . . Archie Johnson graduated from Waseca High School in 1959. He was an outstanding athlete at Waseca Central in the late 50's, dedicated to his sport and a great team leader. Jim Howard exemplifies what one looks for in a nominee and inductee for the Waseca High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Jim was not only an exceptional athlete who achieved eight letters in three sports, he also excelled in the classroom. He had the ability, desire, and work ethic to reach his high school goals. Jim was well liked and well respected by his teachers, classmates, coaches and teammates at Waseca Central. He graduated from Waseca High School in 1958 as one of Central's all-around athletes playing in three sports, lettering twice in football, twice in basketball and four times in baseball. . . . Michael R. Connors, age 53 of Owatonna, formerly of Waseca, died on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at the Owatonna Hospital from complications of lung cancer. Mike was born on February 15, 1958 at his parent's home in Waterville to Robert and Donna (Haycraft) Connors. He graduated from Waseca High School in 1976 and from Granite Falls Vocational School.
